I got up before sunrise again to have enough time in case something goes wrong. The hike to the highest mountain in Crete went through high alpine terrain. The path was well marked, which made hiking immensely easier. I no longer knew what it felt like to hike without constantly having to look for the way. At over 2,200m it got very windy and after almost four hours I reached the top. Hard to believe to stand on the highest mountain above the clouds. First, I rang the bell of the chapel, as it should be done, and took a walk around. Then I had my second breakfast and enjoyed the view. A group of Greek youngsters had invited me for a Raki. I have learned that you do not refuse that. We talked a bit and then I started the descent. It went pretty steeply down for about 1,000m. Of course, you meet other hikers here. A couple carried their two young children up here in carriers. I took a long break at the Toumpotos Hut and realized that I didn't like it here. I decided to continue to the next stage. It should have been easy, but it wasn't. However, it was very beautiful. It went through completely enchanted forests, through the clouds, and sometimes dangerously steep downhill. When I arrived in Fourfouras, I chose a tavern and ate.
