First weekend and first week

Oñemoherakuãva: 13.02.2017

After a relatively long journey from the hotel to my new home for six months (due to heavy traffic on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend), I was warmly welcomed by the children and grandmother. Then I had the chance to explore the house and settle into my room. For dinner, we had lasagna cooked by the grandmother (it wasn't as good as back home in Germany, but still delicious). Before dinner, my host father came home from work (he's a lawyer and usually comes home around 7pm), and I had the opportunity to meet him as well.
On my first weekend in New Zealand, we went to a beautiful beach. We also looked for a dining table since my host family didn't have one yet (the house is very new, they have only been living here for about 1.5 months).
Monday was a public holiday, so I didn't have to work. In the evening, we had a delicious barbecue with the grandparents (Kaye and Keith), who live just around the corner (very convenient if the children ever get too overwhelming for me alone).
On Tuesday, my work started. However, unlike 'regular' Tuesdays, I was luckily only looking after Scarlett (the little one, 5 months old). My first day of work was quite stressful because Scarlett was crying a lot since she didn't really know me yet. Fortunately, Kaye came to help me at some point.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, like the following Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I only had Scarlett. These days were not at all exhausting anymore because Scarlett had already gotten used to me after the first day.
In the evenings, I always had dinner with my host parents and either watched a movie with them or had Sarah (another au pair who lives two streets away) here.
Except for my first day at work, my first week was quite pleasant and manageable.
Sending love ♥
PS: More pictures coming next time :-)
