South African Road Trip VI - Stormsriver

Oñemoherakuãva: 28.01.2018

The weather god is sometimes more, sometimes less kind to Mutti. The sun was shining again with all its might as I drove towards Stormsriver on the N2. It could actually rain on days when I change locations. But oh well.

Stormsriver is located in the Tsitsikama National Park and offers an incredible scenery and many outdoor activities. Upon arriving at the hostel, it was time to put on the bathing suit, apply sunscreen, and head to the pool. Soak up the sun, catch up on my travel blog, practice some yoga, and then jump right into the pool. Mutti also needs a bit more tan before heading back home.

The dorm had two special features. Firstly, an open-air shower, which made the shower experience unique. Secondly, a squat toilet. Drought makes you resourceful. So, up onto the porcelain throne. It was definitely more pleasant than the French toilets in Indonesia.

As a place, Stormsriver doesn't really offer much. Three restaurants and a poorly stocked supermarket. However, one of the restaurants had a delicious Bobotie. It's a South African meatloaf seasoned with a good curry and garnished with dried apricots and raisins.

''Everything is made from minced meat! Say good day with minced meat!"

And a fruity chutney. Mutti was in heaven.

The next day it rained again. Between rain breaks and drizzle, Julian and I drove to the River Mouth in Tsitsikama National Park.

Even though I'm repeating myself: I love the days when the weather is a bit rough and the sea is wild.

The plan to visit the waterfalls was thwarted by more rain.

Time for an afternoon nap. By now, there's one thing that Mutti hates like the plague. When her afternoon beauty sleep is disturbed by newly arrived, stomping backpackers.
It was definitely time to use Angie's "grave of damnation" to open the pit of despair.

I fled from my bed to a seating area. One of the hammocks would have been better. Mutti can't change the weather. Maybe my earworm was to blame for the weather.

"Oh dear Jooot, give us the waaater and help those in need! Oh dear Jooooot, give us the waaaater, because the whole SA is thirsty!"

Yes, the dear water problem. Nobody really cares here. Not even after Day Zero in Cape Town was moved forward by three weeks. The new date of the Doom Day: 22.03.2018!

It's time to make a run for it before the battle for water breaks out here.

Safe Water! Drink Prosecco!

In this sense: On to my final stop in South Africa. The Addo Elephant National Park!

Have Fun and Be Proud!

Yours Jan/Mutti
