Day 34: Kalaloch, Forks, La Push, Sol Duc

It's almost 10 o'clock and we're on our way to Forks. Today is all about vampires and werewolves, because Forks is the filming location of Twilight and as an old fan, I have to go there. First, I go to the information center and get a brochure about the filming locations in the town. The ladies there are very helpful and prepared for fan questions from all over the world. I'm sure you can also buy some merchandise. Now we explore Forks and look for the houses on the map. It's raining, as always. We find them, but David has no interest and is screaming in the car. That's just how it is sometimes. So it's all in fast forward mode and then we speed off to La Push, which is about 30 kilometers away. Some scenes were filmed here too, but we're also interested in the scenery. La Push is an Indian reservation. We're surprised that the Indians also sold their land to the logging industry and cut down the forests. Nothing sacred about nature. It has been stopped now. We're standing at the edge of the reservation right by the sea with a view of James Island. It's raining and the wind is blowing hard. We take a look around. There's not much money, the houses are run down. Only the hotel is maintained with wooden cottages by the water. They're making an effort. Then we go back to Forks one more time. We still need a few things, so we go shopping. Erik is sitting in the shopping cart. He stands up and falls out when I move the cart. He's screaming throughout the store. I calm him down with the frozen vegetables and comfort him. Then we walk through Forks again and buy a T-shirt at the fan shop. The young salesman there speaks German. He and his parents immigrated from Lower Bavaria in 2005 and run 2 stores in Forks. Why Forks? It's a mystery to me. It's still raining. It's the place with the most rainfall in the year. Just rain all the time can be depressing.
At the hospital, a sign refers to the film series, because only Dr. Cullen, the vampire, is allowed to park here.
Then we leave Forks behind and about 1 hour later we arrive at Sol Duc at the campground. There's a pool facility called 'Hot Springs' just around the corner and we inquire about the prices. It's too late today. We pack up a few things.
