5th Day - Beach and Sunburn

Publicado: 14.02.2018

Today, after breakfast (which was actually in the afternoon), we went to Praia Mulho, a beautiful beach on the east side of the island. Since we live in the continental part of the city, this beach is best reached by car, the bus takes about 2 hours from us (even though it's only about 20 km). But since we didn't want to spend so much money on a taxi, we were lucky that Dogan's host (a German from Leipzig who arrived yesterday) took us along. However, since it's still vacation time, we also stood in traffic for an hour :( But the waiting was worth it in the end.
We immediately plunged into the waves, which were quite strong and carried us away, so we were only in the water for about 5 minutes. Our daily dose of seawater had already been reached. The rest of the day consisted of lounging around and drinking coconut water. Although there was no sun and the sky was heavily cloudy, we eventually realized that we all had sunburn all over our bodies - and not just a little. First sunburn in Brazil: Check.

Because Dogan's host had to leave relatively early, but we didn't want to leave yet, we took the bus back at around 8pm - as always, it was an adventure. The traffic was also congested in this direction, so we ended up walking the first 16 stops (about 3 km). There was thunder in the air again today and it started raining, which wasn't so bad because we got to admire a beautiful rainbow over Lagoa de Conceição. After we eventually found ourselves on the right bus thanks to my suboptimal Portuguese, we arrived home two hours later. I was supposed to move today. Unfortunately, there were difficulties again because Bruno's girlfriend had to travel at short notice, so I can only stay with her until the coming weekend - which is not very useful for me. That's why I'm staying at Maike's tonight and I hope that a solution will finally be found tomorrow before I start my internship the day after tomorrow.

Learning of the day: When you're in Brazil, apply sunscreen even if you can't see the sun! (normally, even young children know that, but I prefer to learn through insight)

PS: I actually survived breakfast with the fake Nutella. It's actually quite enjoyable.
