Day 69: Sniffing the big city air in Wellington

Publicado: 02.11.2017

First of all, it's time to say 'Bye Bye' to the wonderful, impressive South Island. We had a great time and can't believe we only have 10 days left in New Zealand.

The ferry crossing automatically includes a panoramic drive through the fjord. With bright sunshine, the landscape is dark blue and vibrant green. There are some houses in the bays and I even spot a small dolphin.

After about three hours, on the other side, there are also bays in the hilly landscape, this time with a lot more houses - this must be the more populated North Island. And already there are skyscrapers as far as the eye can see and a big harbor. When we approach the first intersection after the ferry, we find ourselves in the middle of a traffic jam at a 6-lane intersection. Rush hour. With our camper. After 20 days in the quiet nature. I celebrate every successful lane change.

We park our camper safely and explore the city on foot.

Wellington is a great city for us, and it's no wonder it is one of the most livable cities in the world. Beautiful boutiques, artistic shops, theaters, opera, endless bars, a waterfront promenade. Of course, we stop by one of the pubs 😊

We spend the night in our parking lot in the middle of the city and decide that our camper and we are more at home in nature on this trip. So tomorrow we'll continue on our journey.
