Island is worth a trip ❤️

Publicado: 19.07.2023

We have now left Iceland behind us and can unanimously say that it was worth a trip. These infinitely wide lava fields, the mountains, volcanoes, the hot and cold springs, the waterfalls and everything else ... have impressed us very much. Iceland is a beautiful, interesting country. The energy that resides here in the earth is magnificent, unique and fantastic.

So, now we are heading to Scotland.

But here's a little story about Iceland 😀

Christmas Men in Iceland

There is a beautiful story, not about elves, but about trolls. Specifically about the 13 Christmas trolls. I've shortened the story a bit....The trolls are the children of the troll woman Grýla and live in a cave in the mountains all year round.Trolls only come out when it's dark, otherwise they turn to stone.

This is not much of a problem in December in Iceland, because the sun only shines for about 4 hours a day anyway.

Because of the gifts they bring, they are often mistaken for Santa Claus and, out of joy that their true origin has almost been forgotten, they now also dress in red robes.

The children here place their shoes on the window sill on each of the 13 evenings and hope that Santa Claus, who is allowed into the city on that day, will bring them something.

But be careful! If you haven't been really good, you might find an old shriveled potato in your shoe.

Then, often to appease Santa Claus, a little something is also placed next to his shoe. After all, they had a long way to go.Of course, the 13 brothers also have names, each with a corresponding meaning, but listing them would be too much here.

Christmas (or Yule) lasts 26 days in Iceland, namely from December 11th to January 6th. The trolls or Christmas men come for 13 days, one comes every day and brings something and then goes back in the same way, for 13 days.

😉😘
