Titicaca Lake - Copacabana

Publicado: 22.09.2018

From Arequipa, it took about 7 hours by bus to Puno, on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. The journey was a disaster, the guy next to me was so tall and heavy that he was still sitting on half of my seat 🙈. Well, at least the movie selection was world-class, so I could distract myself a little from being squished. I only stayed in Puno overnight. From Puno, you can actually take trips to the floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca, but according to the travel guide and the internet, these tours are now just over-touristic and worse than Disneyland. So, the next morning I continued to Copacabana, a small town on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca.

Lake Titicaca is located at an altitude of 3800 m in the Andes between Peru and Bolivia, making it the highest navigable lake in the world. From Copacabana, you can explore the islands of Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) and Isla de la Luna (Island of the Moon) with their Inca ruins on an affordable boat tour. Definitely a relaxing but worthwhile day trip.
