After spending another night, like the first night in Corfu, at the marina of Gouvia, we set off early in the morning.
Our first destination was Angelokastro, the Angel's Castle. It crowns a steep mountain peak and offers a magnificent view over a large part of the island, especially the bay of Paleiokastritsa. We were among the first to ascend to the castle, right after the access opened. Upon reaching the top, it quickly becomes clear where this place gets its name: You feel like an angel hovering over everything. It's hard to take it all in.
Afterward, we head to the peninsulas off Paleiokastritsa. There, we want to enjoy the beach once more. However, it is packed, pure mass tourism. We've not seen anything like this on this trip.
The next beach is fortunately a bit better, so we can still enjoy the refreshing water and the sun a little bit longer.
To finish our day, we visit the monastery. The view from up there and the nearby viewpoint is fantastic. It makes us forget the disappointment at the beach.
In the evening, we take the ferry to Saranda (Albania). Things go a bit wrong. First, we get tickets for a ferry that we cannot fit because of our height. So we head back to the ticket office and buy new tickets next door. Then, we rush back to the ferry terminal and through customs. When we finally see the dilapidated ferry, we can hardly believe it. Along with a few cars, it only fits a single camper like ours. And its visual condition was far from encouraging trust. Regardless, in the end, we arrived safely.
