The green-lipped mussels from Havelock are famous. At least that's what all the locals say when asked for a restaurant recommendation. They come from Havelock, a coastal town located about 24 km from Blenheim in the Marlborough Sound. So, I decided to have dinner there with two other guests (Chad and ??? from Cinncinati/US). Reshma, our host, was kind enough to make a reservation for us at "Captain's Daughter" but not without wishing us men a lot of fun with the "Captain's Daughter" ;)
We were running late (19:30), the restaurant was full, and the mussel pot was sold out. So, all we had left was a mussel platter. We had to wait quite a long time for our food.
As a starter, we all had a very smoky fish soup, which everyone seems to love the smoky flavor here. We could only eat it halfway, it was too much.
The mussel platter was okay, the steamed mussels, which were really large, were served with different flavors. Some of them were very delicious.
I'm still not convinced by the green mussels. I'll have to eat them again. Let's see where else in NZ I can get them.
All in all, it was a lovely evening! Especially because I could enjoy a company meal again.
