Before heading into the Amazon rainforest, we will witness a special natural phenomenon: the meeting of the Rio Negro and the Rio Solimoes=Amazonas. We will drive to the boat dock, where Senhora Capitan will take us, along with our guide and driver, on the Rio Negro until we reach the confluence with the Rio Solimoes. For a distance of 10 km, the two rivers flow side by side without mixing. This creates an almost black and white contrast with a sharp dividing line, caused by differences in temperature, acidity, sedimentation, and flow speed. It is an astonishing sight and a beautiful excursion, followed by a visit to the fish market, which is also frequented by biologists who occasionally discover a new species of fish; there are already more than 1900 known species in the Amazon basin.
