Despite Ramadan, we were still able to enjoy many different dishes. Due to the various cultures in Malaysia, the food is also very diverse.
Typically Malaysian are the extremely spicy Laksa soup and various Nasi Goreng variations. There is also a lot of chicken (Ayam) as everywhere in Asia.
Eggs can be found in every soup and they are also part of breakfast (in very thin consistency). The coconut jam Kaya is spread on everything, whether on toast in the morning or experimentally on quesadillas with cheese and bacon (very delicious!).
In cities, the variety is generally greater - in the countryside, people also like to eat only rice with a mountain of meat.
Specialities for Hari Raya are rice cooked with coconut milk in a banana leaf, which is placed in a bamboo tube and cooked over a fire, and rice cooked in bags woven from grass.
Even though it may look like a few worms have been pulled out of the ground and sprinkled with chives in some pictures, the food in Malaysia tasted very good and we enjoyed the variety very much.
