Tag 11: Not our day...

Publicado: 28.05.2019

The night is very restless. It's raining heavily and both children are awake frequently. Marik is unusually whiny. In the early morning, it becomes clear that he has a temperature of 38.2 ° Celsius. He is completely exhausted and complains about back and stomach pain. In the course of the morning, it gets better and he even plays outside with his new friend Maja. We pack our things, hitch the caravan, and head to Omiš. It's raining almost constantly on the way. The mountains are covered in clouds.

We drive on the highway until Split. Then we go downhill, passing the Klis Fortress, which stands isolated and picturesque above Split. Split is the largest city in Dalmatia. You can see many high-rise buildings and a large harbor. We drive past and continue on the coastal road to Omiš. This is a small town and former pirate nest. Omiš spreads on both sides of the Cetina River, which here breaks through the Dinaric Mountains in a gorge. Our campsite is located directly by the sea. When we arrive there, it's raining heavily. Our mood is dampened. Marik starts whining again and to make matters worse, we realize that we left our baby carrier in a restaurant in Šibenik. However, since we want to go to Dubrovnik tomorrow and we need it there, we have no choice but to drive the 100 kilometers (one way) back to get the carrier. On the way, we stop in Split and at least briefly visit the old town and the Roman Diocletian's Palace.

Following a string of bad luck, we also lose one of Leo's shoes. As a result, I walk the entire distance we have covered to search for it. Luckily, I actually find it lying at a corner.

Everywhere smells like lavender, which comes from the fact that lavender is grown in many places in Croatia and sold in various forms in every tourist hotspot.

There are Game of Thrones merchandise available everywhere. Some scenes of the series were filmed here and at the Klis Fortress.

This old town is also very beautiful, but somehow we have seen so many old walls in the past few days that we are missing the big wow effect today. But that may also be due to the circumstances that make today just not our day! We have a snack and drive back to Šibenik. We also choose the country road through the mountains, which at least gives us a scenic drive. On the way back, we take the highway again. By now, the clouds have cleared and we see the landscape once again in the evening sunlight.

This is a reconciling end to an otherwise not so great day. We hope our little treasure feels better tomorrow because then we want to go down to Dubrovnik.

ATTENTION SPOILER! If you don't want to know who ends up on the Iron Throne at the end of Season 8, please do not continue scrolling... ;)
