The last meters

Publicado: 17.08.2019

After a delicious breakfast, Calvin, Robby and I took a long walk through the surroundings. What the landscape has to offer there is almost indescribable! Narrow paths led us through hills and valleys with their rich plant life. You could almost think you had arrived in the Shire. Hidden bunkers, remnants from World War II, aroused our curiosity, so we climbed up and down new hills until we reached the bunkers. We also spotted stone towers in the distance that attracted us. When standing on a very high hill, we had a fantastic view of the coast and the sea with its countless islands and lonely coves on the sandy beach. Honestly, I could have stayed there forever! Just enjoying the breathtaking view and the boundless tranquility. A grazing herd of goats raced past us and completed the picture of a unique nature. Oh...

In the early afternoon we returned to André at the RV and started our journey home. Actually, we wanted to visit a large, walkable bunker complex nearby, but the rain prevented us from doing so. So we drove 119km further to Kristiansand. A parking lot right by the ferry was our overnight accommodation, but before that we stopped at an Italian restaurant in the pedestrian zone.

In the early Friday morning we went to the ferry, which took us to Hirtshals in Denmark in a little over 3 hours. Once there, the destination was set for Flensburg and reached with only 3 stops. But Robby still felt fit enough to continue driving, so we researched another parking spot just past Hamburg. We found one at the Lüneburg Heath and spent the night after a fabulous 586km drive. Now we are on the highway, the final leg home. I look back nostalgically on 2 weeks full of beautiful, exciting, diverse, but sometimes exhausting moments. We only stayed at 2 places twice, otherwise we were in a different place every evening. Sometimes very simple, sometimes more luxurious.

The north of Europe has very appealing corners that we only briefly touched on, but could not explore extensively. That's why we will probably come back again. And this huge monster of a RV is not that big anymore, we have all gotten used to it very well...
