First day of school reloaded

Publicado: 14.10.2019

Today was another first day of school after the holidays - only this time it was the fall break.

__________

But first, something happened over the weekend. On Saturday evening, we were invited to a party, so now we also know how Norwegians party and that they become very talkative and fond of dancing with a lot of alcohol consumption. We even had overnight guests in the house (my roommates couldn't explain to me why).

On Sunday, we had to work. We supervised an international café mainly run by students from the nearby UWC College. Unfortunately, they were not prepared at all, so we improvised with pancakes. It was cool though, as volunteers we were able to connect the laptop to the projector and watch a documentary on the side. Of course, about Norway so it wouldn't be too obvious.

And then we could admire this beautiful rainbow:

And then it was already Monday. Just like any other school day, I made my way with a smile on my face, as I was looking forward to school, after all, I have to do less there than I did during the 'break'. And so it was. In math, I could design a poster for the after-school program, in German class, I learned Norwegian vocabulary (the students were doing reading exercises, so they didn't need my help) and during lunch break, I could sit down and eat peacefully, only to struggle with the printer afterwards. And then came the most challenging part of the day: the first hour of physics for me. I didn't understand half of the words at first and had to look them up. And then there was the absolutely fantastic working atmosphere. One student was wearing headphones, another girl was leaning against the wall and almost falling asleep. How can one be motivated in that situation? But yes, the teacher was still motivated.

When school was finally over, Ole Bjarne invited me to go crab fishing and we left around 5 PM. Sunset was at 6:30 PM today, but you could already see how close it was, as you can see in these pictures.

Sometimes, it came out a little more.

And just minutes later...

Then we arrived at the spot, pulled the crab pots out of the water. Our catch was limited to three crabs, but they were large specimens. After that, we tried our luck a little with fishing, but didn't catch anything.

On the way back, he showed me a house where a summer camp for teenagers takes place every summer. We docked at a pier of a boathouse where there were especially many starfish (I hope you can see them in the picture :) ). Overall, there are quite a few starfish and sea urchins here.

Then we climbed up a rock staircase to the house and found this creative toilet there.

After a short hike in a forest, we found this stone wall on a small clearing. Ole Bjarne couldn't explain the reason for it either.

While it had started drizzling and the sun had set (by now it was 7 PM), we then sailed to the safe harbor. At home, I treated myself to this delicious potato-carrot soup that I had cooked on Saturday and only needed to heat up.

The remaining warmth is provided by the duvet now, as I sit snuggled up on the couch and chat with my roommates (besides writing this entry).
