When we got up this morning at around 8:30 and opened the shutters, we looked stupid: "Mein Schiff 6" had sneaked into the harbor unnoticed. But now let's hurry up and get away before the tour buses get in our way!
A quick breakfast, and then we headed towards Trollstigen, Norway's most famous mountain pass road. Ingo had cleaned the windshield yesterday so that we would have a clear view of the serpentine roads today and no stains would be visible in the photos.
We had already climbed the first curves, and Ingo gave it some gas. Oops, what was that? Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a green broomstick fly by 💨!! Wait a minute, wasn't our windshield cleaner green too?? Yeah, Ingo had put it on the front to dry after using it - and forgot 😅. We turned around and drove the road two more times, but it seems that it landed in the tall grass. So, if you ever find a windshield cleaner on the mountain above the Geirangerfjord, keep it, it works well! 😂
Anyway, let's continue! The higher we go, the whiter it gets ❄️. Parked cars on the right and left, with people putting on their skis, some in t-shirts because it's really warm. An unusual sight.
At the highest point (866m), just before the visitor center, we take a short break. Our cats briefly stick their noses out and are immediately admired and photographed by a woman. Cats in a motorhome are still something special 😻😻.
A few minutes later, we reach the visitor center and make our way to the viewpoint platform. A good distance to walk and about 140 steps - the spectacular view of the serpentine roads is worth the effort! You can watch how oncoming vehicles maneuver past each other from there, it's particularly exciting at narrow spots and with tour buses 😅.
Well, let's go then! A quick look in the souvenir shop, where you can buy ugly trolls in all sorts of shapes and variations, and then we hop into the camper van: 11 turns and a 10% gradient await us!
In the 2nd or 3rd turn, two tour buses come towards us 😱. I'll be honest, if I had been driving, the driver's seat would be wet now! Or I would have just gotten out and continued on foot 😂. But Ingo handled it confidently, just like the rest of the way 👍.
In the end, it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. For days, I had been wondering if we should really drive this route. But it was so worth it! Simply breathtaking! The thrill, the view, the mountains, the waterfalls coming from everywhere, incredibly beautiful! Another highlight of our tour ❤️
When we were finally down there, I needed a break on the next parking lot. And then we immediately headed to the next campsite. A delicious ice cream was waiting for us 🍦 🍦. The rest of the day was all about relaxing.
