How exhausting the last two days were, I only realize in comparison: today I can simply follow the bike path signs and don't have to constantly look at the navigation system or pray that no truck will run me over. I am now on EuroVelo 7, which is over 7000 km from the North Cape to Malta. Thanks to EU subsidies, it is signposted almost to German standards and leads through small side roads or paths for agricultural vehicles.
I was quite hesitant to leave familiar territory and venture into the Po Valley, too many people have described how unpleasant it is there. Because there is no campground anywhere nearby, I have to reluctantly take a room. But I'm lucky, I get a simple yet old-fashioned, but very charming B&B 12 km south of Mantua - today I even have my own little garden. However, the installations wouldn't pass the German TÜV...
