Last Sunday was as follows:
Ben and I met up with Helge, Luisa, and Max (Luisa and Helge are currently staying with Max). We went to St. Kilda Pier and watched the penguins there. Later, we all went to Max's place and had pizza.
On Monday, we were active. Tim, Ben, and I went jogging on the beach and watched the sunset. We also treated ourselves to something delicious to eat for the first time in a while. We had nuggets with homemade potato wedges. It was heavenly!
Luisa and Helge visited us in Elwood on Tuesday. After a quick clean-up, we all had Pavlova together. We had to make it ourselves because there is no restaurant here that sells Pavlova. It's not only sad but also quite strange considering it's an Australian dessert. After the Pavlova, we took a walk to the Brighton Bathing Boxes and had dinner in St. Kilda. However, the weather wasn't great. It was raining and quite windy at the beach.
On Wednesday, I worked in Brighton in the morning, and in the early afternoon, I had a team meeting at the Hofbräuhaus. On Saturday, the Hofbräuhaus is celebrating the opening ceremony of the Oktoberfest. We discussed various activities that will take place during the celebration. Since alcohol rules are strict in Australia, we were also informed about how to behave in certain situations.
Ben and I then visited the State Library Victoria. It's a large library in the city center. It was quite full of students and school children. Many people were playing chess there as well. Ben and I joined in. After a few rounds of chess, we went to an Asian restaurant where we had dumplings with Flizzi, Helge, and Luisa. We were pleasantly surprised by how good they tasted.
On Thursday, I worked at the beach restaurant all day. It's very nice there, and I have conversations with many customers. I feel very comfortable there, and my colleagues are all very nice and hardworking.
Friday was all about preparing for the Oktoberfest. In the afternoon, I helped decorate one of the rooms, and in the evening, I worked there.
Saturday turned out to be the busiest day of the week. I woke up at 6:30 am and worked at the beach restaurant from 8 am to 5 pm. Then I had an hour to get to the city center, which I managed perfectly. My shift at the Hofbräuhaus started at 6 pm. Many people dressed up in lederhosen or dirndls and celebrated late into the night. It was very crowded, and many people danced, even on the tables. I finished work at midnight and went home. Since Tim (housemate) had his birthday on Sunday, both guys were still awake. We sat together and quickly baked a birthday cake for Tim.
On Sunday morning, we finished the cake and had a nice breakfast together. Of course, there was a birthday song and candles for Tim. Afterwards, we did some household chores and went shopping in St. Kilda. In the evening, we made our own burgers. It was a treat! We spared no expense and effort and indulged in burgers to celebrate the day. A dessert rounded off the evening very nicely.
Overall, it was a very successful week. I finally have regular shifts at work, with the shifts in Brighton being quite long. Next week, I can work there five times, and all shifts are scheduled for more than 7 hours. I still find Melbourne very beautiful, and the accommodation we are currently living in was worth every cent. We feel very comfortable but have to realize that our time in Elwood will end next week. More about that, next week...a lot is still being planned :)
