Wow, today I drove through three states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Did you see the amazing map (cover photo)? I found this app called 'Geo Tracker' for free on the Google Play Store, and it doesn't use much battery! Great thing!
In the morning, after a pleasant night (I can now easily sleep with other people in the room and even with the lights on, thanks to the sleep mask 😊), I drove to the furthest point of Cape Cod. I had to be there at 9:30 am for the whale watching trip and wanted to have breakfast on the way. Since the drive would take about 1 hour and 20 minutes and I didn't know the area, I postponed breakfast at each exit: 'No, keep driving, there will definitely be another restaurant...'. In the end, I arrived at my destination with a huge hole in my stomach 😂 Some mistakes you never learn from, but this time I exchanged my online ticket on-site, just in case someone complains like in Montreal 😂 At the harbor, I found a small but fantastic café where everything was freshly prepared, and had a slice of banana bread (I need to make that at home too 😍) and an egg-ham-onion tortilla, which was one of the most delicious things I had eaten in the past three months! And I'm not just saying that because I was hungry 😊
There weren't many people on the boat, so I could enjoy the view of the seals 😍😍😍😍 and humpback whales. They were incredibly close to the boat! Of all the whale watching experiences I've had so far, this boat rocked the most, jumping up high and then crashing back onto the sea, making it feel like the boat was about to break! It's no wonder they offer motion sickness capsules when you board the ship 😊 (I declined, thinking 'oh well', but it was really intense 😂)
Afterwards, I drove west and made a stop in a charming town called Providence. Driving is SOOOOO much fun! After a bit of a travel slump in Ottawa and Montreal, I'm fully motivated again. Maybe it was too European there. Here, it's great again, with superb roads (no joke, they're much smoother than in California!) and you can make coffee stops every few miles. Today is actually 'National Coffee Day' 😊 Oh, and I'm enjoying the American superlatives again, the medium coffee at Dunkin' Donuts is as big as an XL in Switzerland 😂 (I have photos as proof 😂) And it's amazing to see 'New York' on the green highway signs instead of 'Bern' or 'Zurich' 😊 It feels like the world is at my feet 😊 As always, I sang loudly in the car, for example, German hits from the 90s ('Alles nur geklaut..e-o, e-o! 😊) or from today: 'Gestört aber geil' 😂 And of course, I'm listening to country radio stations again 😊
Unfortunately, I can't show you pictures of the view while driving, but I mainly drove through the forest on the interstate and amused myself with the English names given to every place, just like in their homeland: Sandwich, New London, Exeter... Very uncreative 😂 I even drove over the Thames! The bridges on the highway were always very impressive, multi-lane and high!
After the long drive, I arrived at my hotel in New Haven completely exhausted, and it was another huge room, just like the one I had on the first Intrepid tour. Vis-a-vis was a gigantic Walmart, so I bought a salad and some fruits, vegetables, and water for the next few days. I have long drives ahead of me until the day after tomorrow, and then it will be more relaxed. I'm looking forward to it!
