Not a good omen

It seems we didn't get a good omen in Siem Reap. After Sonja needed a day to recover from spending the night in the moldy hotel room, she felt better the next day and we were finally ready to discover the largest religious site in the world. Angkor was once the center of the Khmer people. The kings of the country lived here for over a thousand years (9th to 15th centuries). Everyone had their own temples built. The special thing about it is the mix between Hindu and Buddhist temples. Because which religion was currently being practiced depended on the king. In the heyday of the 400 hectare Angkor, up to millions of people lived there. Only the temples and palaces were built of stone, which can still be admired today.

After this first, real day of discovery in Cambodia, Simon suddenly felt sick in the evening and we had a restless night ahead of us.

So Sonja went on a guided tour alone the next day and experienced Angkor Wat, the landmark of Cambodia, at dusk.
