Wave Rock

To stay up to date, here is the next blog entry. 😊 On Wednesday we traveled 396km from Esperance to our next destination, 'Wave Rock'. Wave Rock is a 15-meter-high rock wall in the shape of a wave. It was formed by water erosion and weather conditions. It is quite impressive and we definitely think the long journey was worth it. In the same town, around the corner, there is a small wildlife park, an animal sanctuary. The highlight of the park advertised koalas, wombats, and white kangaroos. We were not aware that there are also white kangaroos, so we decided to visit the park. For the most part, we saw many birds such as cockatoos, large and small parrot birds, and eagles. Some of them looked like they were not doing well or were very weak. With the cockatoos, we suspected a mental injury, as they suddenly started screaming loudly in our direction and puffing up their feathers as if they wanted to chase us away. Quite startled, we continued on to the (dark gray) kangaroos, which were sitting relaxed in the shade and nibbling on a few blades of grass. In the next enclosure a few meters away, there was a white kangaroo! Snow white and completely relaxed. G'day mate! From a platform, you could view the enclosure from above and we saw a huge kangaroo with real upper arms! Definitely 2 meters tall! We didn't want to encounter that in the dark. Wombats live in small self-built caves with a tunnel system underground, which can be up to 20 meters long and 3.50 meters deep. The wombat seemed to be sleeping and unfortunately, we only saw its shadow. We were really looking forward to finally being able to see koalas, but unfortunately, we found an empty enclosure. The saleswoman later told me that the two koalas died last year and they are looking for new koalas. What a shame, maybe next time. We treated ourselves to a refreshing milkshake and continued on the road to the next free campsite 150km away towards the coast.
