Day 3 Ljubljana

A morning with breakfast. Probably one of the very few on this tour. Accordingly full of anticipation, we went to the dining room, what a luxury to be served coffee in the morning. Well, the disillusionment came pretty quickly. And just like the rest of the guesthouse, you could describe this 'breakfast buffet' as rustic, simple, and without any frills. Not much effort was made in the selection of food or in the presentation. Very Slovenian. But at least we were satisfied, there was also lukewarm coffee, and while we watched our son jumping on the trampoline with a coffee cup in hand, we were almost reconciled with the view of the mountains. But we canceled breakfast for the next two days.
We continued to Ljubljana.
During our last visit, we had already fallen in love with this small, laid-back city. A true surprise hit.
This time, too, the town welcomed us with radiant sunshine and subtropical temperatures. Between the many small streets with even smaller beautiful shops, along the water, and under the numerous umbrellas of countless cafes, we found shady spots and time to linger and rest.
If there were three more words I should use to describe this city, they would be market, music, and wine.
The wooden market stalls with the striped cloth canopies are unique to this city and together form a wonderful market with many delicacies, street food, and homemade treats. Everywhere in between and especially on every bridge or at one of the many fountains, you can find street musicians and a subtle music carpet that runs through all the streets. Our children are always fascinated by that.
In tune with the music, you can casually lean against a vine-covered wall with a glass of wine and enjoy the street atmosphere. Okay, with children and an upcoming car ride, it wasn't possible for us, but there is no shortage of wine or appropriate bars to make the Ljubljana feeling perfect.
We ended the day with two football matches from the second highest Slovenian league. The first match took place in the industrial suburb of Ljubljana. NK Bravo vs Tabor Sežana at the ŽŠD Stadium, which at least had a covered grandstand. Nearly 200 spectators watched an animated and goal-rich match in high summer temperatures.
By the way, admission to the grandstand was 5 euros and our youngest child got a point for visiting a new country. You can do that at 8 months.
After one half, we continued to Domzale for the match:
Nk Roltep Dop - NK Jadran Dekani at the Sportni park. Nice ground with fair sports field! Otherwise, at least around 100 spectators.
Back at the guesthouse, the day ended with a snack from the supermarket on the balcony while our son made German-French friendships by sliding and jumping on the trampoline.
