Tate Modern

The 'Tate Modern' is an art museum located on the Thames. It is one of the most famous modern art museums in the world. The 'Tate Modern' is part of a series of Tate galleries, which also include 'Tate Britain', 'Tate Liverpool', and 'Tate St. Ives'. The museum was opened in 2000 in an old power station. The galleries are spread over the third, fourth, and fifth floors. The 'Tate Modern' houses important and influential works of modern art. I have photographed and uploaded some of the most beautiful and interesting works here.

The museum is located directly on the Thames. From a balcony, you have a beautiful view of the northern side of London. One prominent feature is the 'St. Paul's Cathedral'. The 'Millennium Bridge' is a famous pedestrian bridge that crosses the Thames here.

In the first floor, you can see works by two very famous artists. I had the opportunity to see an original work by Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondrian.

There are also artworks that occupy entire rooms. The artwork of the first image shows only a part of the room. The artist Sarah Sze has combined many familiar and recognizable objects to create a large sculpture that leads through the entire room. On this image, you can discover a ruler, pushpins, brushes, a magnifying glass, clothespins, and much more.

The second image shows a sculpture by Haegue Yang. Many blinds are connected to a light construction. The artwork is attached to the ceiling of the room, allowing you to move freely underneath it.

I found the room in the third image particularly beautiful. A room full of books. A total of 6,328 hardcover books were wrapped in 'Dutch-Wax-Print' fabric (a cotton fabric with batik print known from African clothing) and placed on floor-to-ceiling shelves. The back covers of 2,700 books are printed with names in gold leaf. The names come from first and second-generation immigrants to Britain, or from famous, but also less well-known people who have made a contribution to British culture and history.

These two artworks also occupy an entire room. What is special about them is the connection with sounds.

The first image shows 'Babel', a room-high cylindrical tower consisting of hundreds of different radios. From old to modern radios, everything is included and can be found. Each radio is connected at the minimum volume and plays a different station. As a result, you receive different, sometimes unidentifiable information, and can perceive music and voices.

The second image shows an artwork by Oswaldo Maciá. On the wall, you can see a plan of an orchestra. What is special about it is that the artist has collected 2,000 different birdcalls from all over the world and assigned them to different instruments. These birdcalls are then played through 16 speakers, creating a beautiful sound experience in this room.

The 'Tate Modern', one of the many museums in London, is definitely worth a visit and you can spend several hours there. Another advantage is that, like many other museums in London, it is also free of charge. You have the opportunity to see artworks by very famous artists, but you can also discover new artists, and I plan to visit the museum again.
