Day 10 - Construction workers for a day

Foillsichte: 19.05.2018

Today's Saturday began for us at 6:20 a.m. Without guests, breakfast is also served at the 'normal' dining table in the house and is slightly smaller in setup. Since Sylvia is staying in Windhoek until Sunday, the four of us had breakfast together. After breakfast, Jens and Karsten went to Otjiwarongo to take care of some things. Jakob and I stayed on the farm with Bonny, first as a group of three, later as a duo. Bonny planned to continue work on the road or terrace for the day. The first task was to remove more of the old layer of cement from the underground. We had already started this yesterday, but we weren't finished yet. So we began imitating a pneumatic hammer.

After preparing the underground, Bonny started laying the slabs. To keep them in position, he applied a layer of fresh cement first. This meant that we switched from the pneumatic hammer to the cement mixing machine. We took turns with two wheelbarrows between the sand and cement piles, the buckets of water, and the 'construction site' to ensure a steady supply of cement.

Afterwards, Jakob and I began filling the gaps between the slabs with mortar. At first glance, it seemed like a simple and quick task. On the second glance, it was very annoying... especially working on our knees was really exhausting in the long run.

After nearly 5 hours, a good portion of the path was perfectly finished and we could take a lunch break.

After a rather exhausting morning and a relaxing lunch break, the afternoon continued in a relaxed manner. Bonny had the afternoon off (Saturdays count here too), and Karsten and Jens returned around 4:00 p.m. Until then, there was time to get a little sunburned on the poolside lounge chair and play another round of chess. The day slowly came to an end. Since tomorrow is Sunday, we could let the evening last a bit longer and we went to bed unusually late, around half past midnight.
