Four-windmill passage in Koornmolen

From Vrouwenpolder in the south of Holland, we have moved a little further and set up our tents at Camping Koornmolen in Zevenhuizen. Or rather, we have set up our caravan. It is located on a plot that resembles more of an English park than a campsite. It is situated in a recreational and nature reserve in the Rotterdam hinterland. This area offers plenty of nature and great cycling routes, which we are exploring along the Rottemeren lake.

In Zevenhuizer Zoom, there is a four-windmill passage from 1722 that was restored a few years ago. The four windmills in a row are part of one of the two still intact four-windmill corridors in the Netherlands. However, they are no longer used for grinding, they were originally used for drainage of the polder.

Endragtspolder and Tweemanspolder are now a combination of nature, top-level sports, and water storage: rowers train on the Willem-Alexander-Baan, which meets the international requirements of the World Rowing Federation, while more or less rare birds can be spotted nearby, such as the common sandpiper, the ibis, and the redshank.

The Koornmolengat nature reserve also features a unique old peat area. And the Hohe Bergse Bos, a 34-meter-high climbing mountain where you can actually go skiing, mountain biking, and climbing. The highlight: the facility was built on a former debris mound in the shape of the peak of Monte Cervino, the mountain on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn.

For us, Koornmolen is also an ideal starting point to visit Gouda, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Amsterdam.
