After a good night's rest, it's time to pack our backpacks and venture out into the big city. Because our stomachs are growling with hunger. Without a plan, we start walking and end up at Hyde Park. A green space with tall, dense trees, fountains, and other greenery. A major street separates the park, which can only be accessed by pedestrians. This crossing is controlled by a signal light that not only visually but also audibly alerts. The sound reminds me of a laser cannon shot... ('Piuh'). Sarah has fun imitating the sound all day.
Back to breakfast. In a small, venerable shopping center built in 1892 (or so), we find what we're looking for and enjoy a rich and balanced Australian-style breakfast. It's enough for the whole day, which says something considering we walked over 43,000 steps in the evening. Then it's time to explore and discover the city on foot. We quickly find our way and come across the high-class shopping mile, the harbor, the Harbour Bridge, the Rocks (the brick-like and iconic harbor quarter), the Opera House, the botanical garden, and numerous Australian naval ships.
Spontaneously, we also try to book a Bridge Climb Tour or an Opera House Tour. Unfortunately, everything is fully booked until January 6th. No big deal. And one thing is noticeable: the preparations for NYE (New Year's Eve) are massive. The city is expecting huge crowds...
Dinner also has to be earned. Despite many options, we wander around one last time and finally find a burger. Mission accomplished.
