05/08 - Yacht trip to the summer villa on the beach

Foillsichte: 07.08.2017

We already suspected that Andrea and her family were doing well and that she did not move in any poor social environment, but what we experienced on Saturday left us speechless.

It started early in the morning at 7 o'clock and we knew that we would go fishing with a yacht from friends. Whether it is really a yacht or just a small boat, we were not quite sure, buuuut it turned out not to be a small boat.

After all 15 people arrived and introduced themselves to each other, we set off to the open sea where we cast our fishing lines to catch our lunch.

Meanwhile, we had beer and various Mexican snacks for breakfast. With a total catch of 14 partly large fish, our captain was satisfied and we lay down on the deck to enjoy the view and to roast a bit in the sun.

Next, as Andrea explained to us, we will go to the house of the owner of the yacht and have a snack before we head to a big yacht party in the middle of the sea. So far sounds pretty good, so we were excited to see what awaited us. And once again, our expectations were more than exceeded. The 'house' was actually a summer villa on the beach, which apparently every family in Mérida has (well, at least every family in these circles). During the summer months, many restaurants and clubs even move from the city to the beach in Progreso, and the families live in their summer houses on the beach, we were told.

From the yacht, we drove the jetski directly to the beach in front of the house and the girls enjoyed the magnificent pool, while the boys waited for the food on the terrace with chips and beer. The food was anything but a snack in the German sense. For starters, the family's cook (yes, correct, not mom, not dad, not us, but the cook) prepared tacos and tortas (thick sandwiches) with different meats, vegetables, and salsas (sauces), and for the main course, the two yacht guides prepared ceviche from the freshly caught fish. For this, the fish is cut into small pieces and marinated in lime juice with onions, tomatoes, and herbs (not cooked). Sounds interesting, tastes delicious!

After the meal, we went back to the sea and on the way to the yacht meeting (the so-called regattas, where many different yachts meet for a big party on the sea every Saturday afternoon throughout the summer), our boat turned into a party ship. And so we joined the other boats and ships.

So we sang and danced until long after sunset and in between, we bathed in the sea, until we made our way back to the harbor after over 12 hours at sea.

What a day! It was not only impressive, but Andrea and Beto's friends were also all so nice that we had a lot of fun together.
