The road trip begins from Airlie Beach back to Sydney. Along empty roads through sparsely populated landscapes. Nothing actually happens for the first 9 hours, but we stop off in Agnes Water to rest. We continue to Rainbow Beach with fine, white sand, perfect for barefoot jogging. There is even more sand on the largest sand island in the world - Fraser Island (K'gari). On the 150km long sand highway (!) the 4-wheel drive takes us directly along the sea to the only small village and into the fascinating rainforest with sequoia trees. The highlight: the crystal-clear, turquoise-blue McKenzie Lake with a bright white sandy beach, whose water is so pure and lukewarm that you don't want to go out. At the end a dingo bids us farewell! The next day up to Carlo - a mountain sand dune, from which we watch the amazing sunset like in an open-air cinema. On to Noosa National Park, where we look for koalas, unfortunately without success. We are accompanied by a bird music concert and funny brush turkeys and recurring great views of beautiful bays. We test out a few roller coasters in the entertainment hot spot - the Gold Coast - and of course Max gets on the board in Surfers Paradise. There are even more incredible beaches, laid-back surfer vibes and sun in Byron Bay. And then we actually see wild dolphins! We walk through Nambucca Heads along the V Wall made of colorfully painted stones. At the last stop in Port Macquarie, Max takes advantage of the last surfing opportunity and FINALLY we see a few cute koalas in a rescue center. Finally, there is a hike in the rain through the Blue Mountains, where the sun surprises us again for some beautiful 'scenic views'.
