Alpe Adria Cycle Path: from Villach to Germona del Friuli

Foillsichte: 04.07.2024

After a rainy day, which we used for bike repairs and chilling out, we head towards Italy.

On the Drau River, we try out the recliners and come across circus animals in a meadow.

The first 40 km are uphill, but the route is easily manageable. We take a break in Maglern with fresh pastries (cinnamon twists, quark poppy seed pastry, and plum quark pastry).

The power boost enabled us to overcome the 15% incline, which was signed as a downhill, without much effort.

Buongiorno
Buongiorno! We have arrived in Italy.

From Tarvisio, the cycle path follows a former railway track. Along the route, you can find remnants of the railway's past. Some are abandoned places reclaimed by nature, while others are renovated buildings used for gastronomy or living.

From Camporosso, it's all downhill. Over 40 km, we can ride at 25-30 km/h with moderate pedaling. Additionally, most sections of the route are paved. Maria's favorite scenario for cycling (downhill/paved).

You meet acquaintances again and again
We had already spent the night together with the Milanese couple at the campsite in Salzburg. Very nice people (communication was in Italian, French, and with gestures, but it worked).
