So currently we are sitting at the airport in LA waiting for our flight back to Las Vegas. The last few days in Maui were rather calm and relaxed, so there was no new report yet. But now...since I have some time while waiting here 🤪.
We spent Monday morning at a beautiful wide sandy beach. Spencer Beach is just a few minutes drive away from our apartment and is a small bay with not much going on. Just the right place to relax and enjoy a leisurely swim.
In the evening, we had a traditional Luau night. There, you are introduced to the Hawaiian (dance) traditions and the history of the islands. With flower garlands, hula dancers, and fire dancing. You sit in a cozy circle at dusk and get delicious Hawaiian food. 🙂 That's the theory! ☝🏼 The reality looked a bit different 😒
After a huge traffic chaos, where instead of 3/4, it took us 2 3/4 hours to get there, we arrived at the Hyatt Regency Resort Maui. One hour after the official start. We thought we had missed something exciting, but we didn't. It was not a cozy get-together, but a massive buffet and club entertainment. There was even a children's mini disco with hula dances.
We were shocked 😦 that's not how we imagined a Luau night. In Turkey, yes, in Maui, no. Definitely no. But since we paid a lot of money for it, we stayed until the bitter end and endured the program. 🍻🍹🍸🍻😬
Fortunately, the return journey was faster.
Tuesday was departure day. Unfortunately, we had to leave the apartment at 11am, but our flight was not until 9:55pm. That meant somehow getting through the day. 🤷🏻♀️And as if that wasn't bad enough, I also caught a cold and feel terrible. 🤒🤧 I would have loved to stay in bed and sleep. 😴 But unfortunately, that was not possible. I couldn't have chosen a more inconvenient day for this in the whole vacation. 🙄
We stayed at our pool for another 2 hours, then we visited the Maui Ocean Center and afterwards a small town called Paia.
Now we are sitting at the airport waiting for the last leg of our long journey.
