Expedition report Indonesia 3.1

Foillsichte: 24.09.2018

Yogyakarta / Dieng Plateau / Semerang / Bromo - Tengger- Semeru - National Park

Central Java / East Java - Indonesia

Hello, how are you?

(How are you?)

Arriving on the most densely populated island in Indonesia, we took the train directly to the very modern and cosmopolitan cultural capital of Yogyakarta, which I soon dubbed the Berlin of Indonesia.

Young, open-minded Indonesians, lots of graffiti, tradition combined with modernity could be found in the lively and crowded center of the city. Tourists from the other side of the world and Indonesians living in remote, very conservative and religious villages outside the city come together here - a popular photo motif: us as white Western earthlings.

As it was the weekend, countless people were out and about and we had a glimpse of the local market and the still very delicious food in Indonesia (portion from the street food stall: 80 cents)

What we wouldn't do for the magical sight of a sunrise. Getting up at 3 o'clock in the morning, not once but twice, once for the Buddhist temple Borobudur and a second time for the overwhelming volcanic landscape of Mount Bromo and Mount Batok.

In between these two unique excursions, we visited the Dieng Plateau, where we were pretty much the only visitors who rented scooters and explored the plateau, which was characterized by agriculture and mountain villages.

On the whole, we liked Java very much, beautiful landscapes, incredibly helpful and friendly people.
But the traffic and the associated smog were enormous, as I have rarely experienced.

We are now moving on to the east, unplanned we will spend our last few days together in Bali and see what this island has in store for us.

Greetings with a kiss.
