After 2 nights in Santiago, I had to stay true to the motto of this blog and drive to the Pacific, a 2-hour bus ride. In Santiago this morning, the weather was mixed and it was 13 degrees, here it is 23 degrees and sunny. The difference in altitude explains it: from 650m to zero. On the way, there are flower meadows with yellow and orange splendor. The port city appears very lively - many shops, market stalls - lots of people. My hotel is right by the harbor and the train passes below. After arriving at the hotel, I went out again for a photo excursion. Many old houses are artistically enhanced, or in other words, the oil paint often holds the plaster together. There is a lot of decay here. The steep stairs between the houses from the beginning of the 20th century draw me upwards. A certain sense of artistry has developed here, which obviously attracts German tourists in particular. Lots of quite curious hostels. It goes up quite high. I'm starting to get thirsty and I think there will already be a restaurant, or a cafe, or a bar where you can enjoy the view with a beer. Far from it - there isn't. If anything, you can sit down somewhere, but I'm too precious for that. View of the harbor, even a 3-master is there, various frigates of the Chilean Navy (that's really what it's called). The building substance deteriorates on the other side of the hill, but there are many motifs thanks to colorful houses, rusty corrugated iron, colorful flowers blooming among garbage. Hardly anyone passes by on a path, the dogs bark at me, despite my good intentions. Finally, a man speaks to me and points out that this is not a good area, I should put my SLR camera in my pocket. Said, done, I quickly leave the neighborhood and descend. Beer, please - I try to buy one in a kiosk, only alcohol-free, also in -2 to 3 other shops. I go to a bakery and ask for empanadas - yes, there is even a special offer. With warm empanadas in my pocket, I'm still missing the beer. Just before giving up, I sit down in front of a tiny bar. The woman even offers WiFi. She sees my wallet on the table and suggests that I put it in my pocket - such a bad area? I have already found restaurants for later tonight.
