Day 23 & 24 Back to Lakeland

Foillsichte: 13.07.2022

With two days driving gravel road ahead, we had an early start with a detour to the World War II radar tower which meant crossing either a deep river or the bridge on the photo... We went for the bridge and reached the well maintained World War II radar tower.

Then we were driving to the Jardine river ferry. As the ferry can only transport 6 cars (without a trailers) on one crossing, there was a big queue, so it took quite some time to cross the few meters of the Jardine river. While waiting in a distance, a dingo came by but as the way to the trash cans (actually for your mangos) wasn´t free, the dingo left.

Finally after crossing the Jardine river, we went again for Fruit Bat Falls for a short swim before heading just in time to Bramwell Junction Roadhouse for our dinner. Dinner was only available 5:00-5:30pm so to time the drive over gravel road to be there in time without further damaging the car was a bit challenging…

After another night at this Bramwell Junction Tourist Park (this time no air-con at all but more chemistry in the air…), we had again an early start for heading back to Lakeland. Although no gravel road anymore still some wildlife to look out for on or nearby the street. On the way we bought a melon for Stuart before heading to the Lakeland roadhouse for dinner. The burgers and chips were such a big portion Stuart had to help finish the chips.

In Lakeland we had to repair the driver´s side metal above the tyre as well. Luckily our neighbour had some cable ties ad hand, so the fix was easy and fast. Unfortunately, for our remote work schedule Telstra seemed to have some working ongoing, so we had no WiFi/Internet connection that night and had to move all meetings and tasks to other days, influencing the following travels. Bad luck, as the next days were actually packed with sights & looking for animals, making the next days very long days indeed.

With these days our trip to Cape York was finished and we were heading for the 'Tablelands' before moving on to the 'Savannah highway' to the west.
