Niagara Falls - Kingston

Foillsichte: 06.10.2021

The motel in Niagara Falls is really nice. Unfortunately, my neighborhood is not quite so nice. A persistent cougher managed to survive the night and kept coughing until morning - much to my dismay. So I woke up feeling a bit worn out. Well, maybe I can sleep on the flight back home then.

The weather hasn't changed, it's still very hazy. And the road to Toronto, just like yesterday, is very crowded again. However, I actually manage to bypass this huge city without getting stuck in traffic. Skyscrapers tower on both sides of the highway. And in between, eight lanes of traffic rush towards Montreal. It would be a nightmare for me to drive here every day. But some people actually use this route as a racetrack. However, that's rarely seen in Canada. Most of the time, they drive very civilized.

After 2 hours of driving, the highway turns into a three-lane road. And after two and a half hours, it becomes two lanes. I exit the highway to see Lake Ontario. It may be due to my farewell, but I don't find it very impressive. It's huge, but that's about it. Even the landscape is not particularly interesting. I really can't think of a reason why anyone would stop between Toronto and Montreal. Even the parks are not particularly appealing.

I stop at Tim Hortons to enjoy a late lunch. The cheese melt and the donuts are absolutely delicious. It's a pity we don't have them at home. Just a few minutes away, I sit by the waterfront and try to enjoy the view. But even here, I don't feel any atmosphere. What I find amusing is that the marina, which is accessible to everyone, boasts two Weber grills that can be used by anyone. You just have to turn off the propane at the end. They are funny.

Kingston, my final destination with my last motel. It actually has 120,000 inhabitants. And it is famous for its harbor promenade. But I don't find it particularly special now. I think it's because of my mood. And so I decide to brighten it up by getting what I always get in the end. Sushi. And since it's only available for takeout, I'll just take it with me.

My motel is exactly as it should be. Not too nice, otherwise it would be cruel to leave. But totally practical. Parking right in front of the door and two beds. So this time, I bring my big suitcase into the room and unpack on the second bed. That has always proved to be useful so far. That way, you don't have to struggle on the floor. The motel fills up with workers who are probably here on a construction project. So far, no one is coughing. When I finish packing, I enjoy my sushi. I love it. Plus, the donut from Tim Hortons. What more could you want. Tomorrow, it's just under 3 hours to Montreal. And then an eternal wait at the airport. But with a day that has already started so poorly, there's no point in doing anything. And so I don't have to pay for the car rental for an extra day.

I always consider travel to be over the day before. The day of the return flight is terrible. You just want to go home. I'll be really glad to get rid of this stupid suitcase. Sometimes you can only check in 3 hours before departure. I hope that's not the case tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll have to sit around somewhere with this giant thing. Back in Manchester, flying to New York - that was cool. You could check in the night before. But even if you could do that here too, I'm not even there. So I'll take it as it comes. Good night, John-Boy!
