20.02.2023 from Port Wakefield to Innes NP and Shellbeach CP

We are not used to these caravan spaces close together, the cars are simply too close to each other. So we are up early and drive to the Yorke Peninsula. Our first stop is the town of Ardrossan, who knows how to pronounce that. We visit the information center and receive first-class advice and assistance, after browsing the internet for 30 minutes at the door, a friendly staff member brings us water, even though we are not sitting directly in the sun. We book a spot in NP Innes in the south of the island, buy some groceries, and have our small lunch at one of the many picnic spots. We continue along the coast, through delightful, small, clean coastal towns. Wool used to be the export hit here, today it is probably wheat. The landscape looks cleared out, with only harvested grain fields and occasional grazing sheep, but it lacks greenery in nature. An almost abandoned limestone (dolomite) quarry can be seen from a lookout point, and there are already signs from citizen initiatives along the road, no more mines on the island, but they leave the wind turbines standing. It is really worthwhile to operate them here.

A sign advertises the pink salt lakes. We turn off and explore some of them. In the middle of the island, the small salt lakes are close to each other and they are being managed, a salt extraction company promotes their activities here.

Finally, we have arrived at NP Innes and see many hiking trails that we want to explore tomorrow. First, we go to the campsite, and unfortunately, we made a mistake today, the parking space is relatively large, but we cannot access it with our car, not even with a car, it is a spot for a tent and the cars are parked outside. Well, we are flexible. Oh, we also briefly went to the beach, the Baltic late summer temperature initially does not tempt me to jump into the waves, and I also lack proper swimwear. But tomorrow we will hike again.
