Back at the lodge we had breakfast and after packing our things we set off towards the Olgas - Kata Tjuta. Our destination was the Valley of Winds Trail. Much to the children's dismay, the trail was open and we could start walking.
Although there were a number of other tourists with us at the beginning, there were gradually fewer of them and we walked the last part of the circular route more or less alone. In total it was almost 7.5 km over hill and dale, literally. The trail lived up to its name: a constant cool wind accompanied us along the entire trail, which was not unpleasant given the sunshine. There were great views of the rock formations along the way. Since it had recently rained, a number of small desert flowers were blooming along the side of the path.
Shortly before the end of the loop we stopped for a picnic at the water hole. Then we went back to the car.
Since it was just after midday, we decided to do the Walpa Gorge Walk. This trail is about 2.5 km long and leads into a valley between two of the rocks. Because of the water there, it was quite green, at least in places.
On the way back we made a short stop at the Cultural Center to learn a little about the Aborigines in the area. Afterwards we stopped briefly at the camel farm, which also offers camel tours.
In the evening we wanted to watch the sunset again from the lookout in the resort. However, a few clouds had come up in the meantime, so Uluru was not as beautifully reddish. We were lucky yesterday!
Afterwards we had dinner at the barbecue area. There we were able to buy a barbecue package for each of us and then prepare our own food on the grills there. There was also a salad buffet and live music.
