#9 - Johnny Cay & Acuario

Foillsichte: 26.02.2018

We're back!

So luckily not in cold Switzerland, but in Albert's little house. Although we had a good time in other places too, we're looking forward to being back here and to our cold shower that can cut concrete. We have a special dinner waiting for us tonight and before that, Dani is spending time with his new friend. Arthur is Albert's dog and unfortunately doesn't get much exercise, which we feel sorry about. So Dani plays with him as a playmate and that's good for both of them.

These last days we managed to organize a squid with a lot of effort. There are even two, but they haven't been caught yet. That's a very time-consuming and laborious task that Albert takes care of. I (exceptionally) get to watch Romy in the kitchen and write down the recipe. She doesn't like it and doesn't allow it normally. Finally, I get to see how the incredibly delicious coconut rice is made, which is practically served everywhere as a side dish.

Later, we have dinner with Albert and two good friends. One of them quickly makes a small souvenir out of palm leaves. Romy doesn't eat with us, she never does as a cook. We barely recover, it's soooo incredibly delicious and she saved the leftovers so that we can have it again. We enjoy this time to the fullest before we go back to our usual surroundings.

The next day, Albert hires a tourist guide for us so that we don't have to plan the tour ourselves. It feels a bit lazy ;-) but it pays off later. In the end, we decide on a tourist tour, which keeps us away from crowded places, but apparently it's really beautiful. So after breakfast, thanks to Cecilia, we bypass the long queues and jump directly onto the boat that takes us to Johnny Cay. There we get a little shock. It's like Egypt during snorkeling trips, where there are so many people. But besides that, the island is really beautiful and we just look for a free spot. Lunch is still a long process, meaning if you leave at 1 pm, you can eat at 12 pm. From there, we continue by boat to the mangrove. The group leader tells us a few things about the color of the water and the animals in it, but we naturally don't understand much. And anyway, we're busy cleaning our ears because we got soaked by the waves. The journey continues very rough to another island. It's called Acuario and has many sandbanks and a small island that you can reach by walking in hip-deep water. It's simply breathtaking and without the many people, it would be a paradise. There we also see policemen who definitely don't have the worst job.

Although the return trip is anything but pleasant, we're still happy that we can dry our clothes in almost 30 degrees and don't have to hurry. The boat captain concludes with a prayer for everything and everyone.

Our conclusion is that these tours are not always our thing, but we're glad to have seen both of these islands because they're something special and we won't easily see such clear water again.
