Hello my love,
The time has come for more updates from the South Island: I'm on the road again and am looking forward to slowly making my way towards the west coast. On the way there, I've definitely planned stops in Queenstown and Wanaka.
After chilling out in Te Anau and Manapouri for a few days, I got a text message in the afternoon saying that my light had arrived and was ready to be replaced. So I quickly got everything ready and drove to the workshop. There I watched as the light was replaced and the dent was slightly removed. I also spent about an hour chatting with the mechanic and his employee. Oops! I actually wanted to drive to Queenstown that evening, but after it got dark I decided to just drive as far as Lumsden. There is a really nice freedom campsite here, which was set up at an old train station. There is also an old locomotive with 2 wagons on display here. Very, very cute place!
After a delicious scrambled egg in the parking lot, we continued on to Queenstown. There is a small café next to the campsite and it's a funny feeling when someone in a suit parks next to you and drinks his morning coffee while I cook my eggs in my pajamas.
On the way to Queenstown I was able to enjoy some great views. And then I climbed Queenstown Hill to enjoy the view even more.
I keep an eye on the weather on my hike and I knew it would definitely start to rain on my way. The weather actually held long enough for me to take a look at the summit and the view before I had to put on my rain jacket and head back.
The view was simply amazing! The other mountain peaks were visible in the background and the sun shone particularly brightly on them. I avoided the rain by taking the way back through the forest.
On the way back I spotted a few more birds. Really cool - I have no idea what they were but I thought they were really, really cool.
Then we went back to the campsite for a hot shower and after this treat I decided to go and wash up. It was a wonderful but also exhausting day and I enjoyed it very much.
The next day I planned to take a closer look at the city and maybe do a little shopping.
But more on that in the next post.
Your Britta
