19.10.2019 Mt. Cook, Hooker Valley Track

Foillsichte: 19.10.2019

The weather should be good today, so we wanted to leave at 8 o'clock to Mt. Cook, about 65 km away, New Zealand's highest mountain.
Near Mt. Cook is the Hooker Valley Track, 10 km long, which we really wanted to hike.

Of course, as we are, we only managed to leave later. Due to the rain, it was incredibly loud in the van all night, so we even needed earplugs.

At 9 o'clock we finally left and were able to take really nice photos on the way to Mt. Cook, the sky cleared up, the sun came out and it was really warm.
It was funny that the entire path to Mt. Cook was covered in snow, we were told that it snowed so much overnight.
So we did the Hooker Valley Track in the snow, which was super nice! At the end of the track, we arrived at Hooker Valley Lake, which was still frozen. Mike built a snowman, which then became the total attraction for all other hikers. Because the sun reflected in the snow, we both got a sunburn on our faces.

When we finished the track, it was only 3 pm but we decided to drive to our caravan park, take a shower and tidy up and clean the van a bit (it has to be done, right?)

If the weather is good tomorrow, we would like to do the 'Blue Lakes' hiking trail (only 5 km) and then we will drive back to Twizel because a friend from Germany might meet us there and we will go fishing together.
