Today, my husband and I spent a wonderful day in Albufeira – with sunshine, sea, and a cozy snack in the charming old town. After the heavy rain six days ago during our first visit to the city, today's weather felt like a gift. Brilliant sunshine, with only a few clouds occasionally adding to the pleasant atmosphere.
Our excursion began at the beach of Albufeira, which is directly accessible from the old town via a tunnel. This narrow passage through the rock has a somewhat mystical quality. Once you walk through it, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the beach and the vast sea. The beach itself stretches for about 800 meters.
At low tide, the beach presented a fantastic sight. The vast sandy areas shimmered gold, the water sparkled in the sun, and everywhere there were shells left behind by the sea. We had great fun rummaging together and collecting some particularly beautiful specimens.
Above us tower the typical whitewashed houses of Albufeira, nestled charmingly against the cliffs. The backdrop is simply enchanting: the glittering blue of the Atlantic, the golden sand, and the radiant houses – characteristic of Algarve yet always fascinating.
The walk was exactly what we needed, a little break from daily life, with the sun on our skin and the sound of the sea in our ears.
After the stroll, we headed into the old town of Albufeira. The narrow, winding streets, the white houses, and the lively hustle and bustle had their unique charm. We found a cozy restaurant where we refreshed ourselves with a cool drink and delicious snacks. The atmosphere was relaxed, and we simply enjoyed our time together.
When I think of the rain six days ago, I can hardly believe how perfect the weather was today, so different from last time, friendly, warm, and full of light. The contrast made the beauty of Albufeira even more evident and showed us once again how beautiful and diverse this region is – whether on a walk by the sea or exploring the old town.
Anyone who has the opportunity should take time for a day like this. Just go out, enjoy nature, and let the little things enchant you. It’s always worth it!
A perfect conclusion at O Marinheiro.
After our beautiful day at the beach and the visit to the old town, we treated ourselves to something special in the evening, a dinner at Restaurant O Marinheiro. Its charming ambiance and warm hospitality provided just the right atmosphere to unwind and end the day peacefully.
The menu had everything we could wish for, and so we decided on different delicacies. I started with a carpaccio that was so fresh and delicate it melted in the mouth, while my husband enjoyed a wonderfully aromatic vegetable soup that tasted of fresh herbs and local ingredients.
For the main course, I chose a tender monkfish fillet, perfectly cooked and full of flavor, accompanied by a bottle of refreshing white wine that beautifully complemented the flavors. My husband opted for duck fillet with orange sauce – a refined combination of tender, juicy duck and the light sweetness of orange that completely won him over.
To finish, we indulged in a typically Portuguese classic: sorbet, refined with a splash of Medronho, the traditional liquor made from the fruit of the strawberry tree. A wonderfully refreshing and exciting combination.
O Marinheiro perfectly rounded off our day culinarily with its fresh and regional products. It was a true highlight!
