The Rock Garden, where we stayed for two days, is a simple accommodation located somewhere in the Pampa. The houses are round and thatched with reeds. Inside, there are solid beds and a table. The shower, with only cold water, is in the same room as the toilet. But it is cozy. There's no WiFi, though.
Cooking is done over an open fire. Meals are served in a wooden house open on one side, offering a beautiful view over the garden and surroundings. Alexander and his wife Precious are wonderful hosts. After a necessary and refreshing shower, we wait at the campfire, hungry for our dinner. There’s a buffet with all sorts of delicious items. We end the evening by the fire.
In the morning, we are woken up by a cow that roams freely in the garden and is eating. After a similarly tasty breakfast, we set off on a hike to the waterfalls. Everyone gets a stick, which will be very useful. The path soon leaves the road and goes through “forests” of banana or coffee trees right next to the houses. Then we are shown a small chameleon. The branch it sits on is broken off, and it quickly crawls onto our hands. It feels interesting. You can feel the secure grip of the animal. It is not unpleasant, however. We continue on. After a while, we hear rushing water. The first waterfall. It's hard to see through the low-hanging clouds. Then it clears up a bit. From below, we see the water cascading down. We move closer and feel the moisture, as if it’s raining. A stand sells minerals.
The hike continues. Fields and small forests alternate. The path is occasionally muddy, and even with the stick, it’s challenging not to slip. Then a small clearing opens up. Now we stand above the next waterfall and look down. The landscape transitions to a plain at the foot of the mountain. We are now joined by locals who help us climb down and explain things. We reach the next waterfall and can go under it. There is a small cave underneath it. Now we continue down the mountain. At a hotel, we treat ourselves to a coffee break. Then we head to a viewpoint where we can see the highest waterfall once more.
