Exploring Cape Town

Foillsichte: 03.10.2016

Our first backpacker hostel on our trip was 'never @home', where we stayed for 3 nights.

On cool spring evenings, we wanted to find a restaurant. As fate would have it, we made our first acquaintance with a German backpacker. We got talking and got some tips for CP. Then we decided to go for a meal together. After that, we went to the backpacker's bar for some 'Black Label', one of the most popular South African beers.

After being awake for a long time, we went to bed early.

On the second day, a sightseeing tour in CP had to wait. I couldn't wait to buy a surfboard. So we went to Muizenberg, where popular board shapers are located.

I bought a 6.4 ft. Shortboard for around 300 euros including a board bag, leash, grip pad, wax, and tool. Then I got a 3/2 Flashbomb wetsuit from Rip Curl. High quality and a bargain for 70 euros. In Europe, you would spend around 300 - 400 euros for that.

The board was then more or less successfully tested. Since it was my first time on a shortboard and I have only surfed a mini malibu with much more volume in France for a total of 6 weeks in the last 3 years, I had to get used to the conditions and the behavior of the board.

On the third day, we left the car behind and walked to the nearby 'Waterfront'. Numerous pubs, restaurants, fast food stalls, museums, luxury apartments, and hotels make the marina a magnet for tourists. With good weather and blue skies, you can enjoy a fabulous view of Table Mountain and the harbor.

An absolute highlight for me was the FoodMarket. Several stands offer a variety of delicious treats in a large hall.

From the Waterfront, it is only a 30-minute walk to the center of Cape Town.
