Day 29: Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss

Foillsichte: 23.08.2023

Two waterfalls were on my list today. After Inveldur announced that she has to babysit in Rekjavik and will probably not be back until tomorrow, I packed my backpack and left at three o'clock.

The two falls are about fifteen minutes from the farm. The way was okay, but just looking for a parking space was just annoying. Since Seljalandsfoss is a pretty popular waterfall and some bus tours go there, it was absolutely packed. Seljalandsfoss itself was quite impressive and beautiful and there was a path to walk behind the waterfall. But if your goal is to stay dry, you shouldn't.

Then I walked to Gljúfrabúi, which is less than five hundred meters away. On the way along the rock face, there were a handful of smaller waterfalls. Gljúfrabúi is located within a crevice and if you don't want to get wet you can just see a bit of the waterfall through the crevice. I went in and it looked really cool, but after a few minutes I was pretty wet despite the rain jacket.

All in all, the two waterfalls were not necessarily anything special. Sure, they look nice, but if you don't want to get wet there's not much to look at and the parking was pretty expensive too (€6.29 for two hours). But what I found a pity was that there was hardly anything else to do than look at the waterfalls. At Gugglafoss you could walk up and along the river if you wanted to. Well, it was nice and now I can say I've been there before, but I don't need it again now.

After that I drove back and spontaneously climbed Dimon because I still had enough time and half a sandwich and a few biscuits left. I then had a picnic at the top and then drove back to the farm.
