Langkawi & Cameron Highlands

Foillsichte: 02.07.2017

Before we continued to Langkawi by ferry, we were able to take a short walk through Georgetown. When we arrived in Langkawi, we immediately rented a scooter at the port and drove to our accommodation fully packed. This way, we could explore the island independently. We visited Pantai Cenang Beach, where we immediately got sunburned, and the highest mountain on the island, Mount Raya. When we finally reached the highest point after what felt like an eternity, it was quite cloudy, so we decided to drive to a lower viewpoint. There, we were rewarded with a much better view. :)

We spent a day at the Marine Park Pulau Payar and went snorkeling. The water there was very clear and blue, so we were able to see the coral, variety of fish, and small sharks very well. Unfortunately, this day passed by too quickly.

Since it's Ramadan, there was a market with food stalls in every town until sunset, where we couldn't decide what to take. We tried the traditional dessert ABC once, which we didn't like very much because it basically consisted of food coloring, sugar, and crushed ice. The drinks in Malaysia also look/taste very colorful and have a peculiar sweet taste. Other than that, the food here is super delicious.

After our three days on the island, we set off for the Cameron Highlands. The winding journey took almost the entire day until we reached the small town of Tanah Rata. The temperatures up here were very pleasantly refreshing and not so stifling hot.

The next day, we took a tour of the Highlands. We were a small group and drove through the Highlands with our guide in an off-road vehicle. Along the way, we passed tea plantations and went for a hike in the Mossy Forest. Our guide told us a lot of information about tea cultivation, harvesting, and care, as well as the Mossy Forest. After the tour, we walked around the small town for a bit and fell into our beds tired in the evening.
