So, today I visited the city.

1. Saint Mary's Cathedral

The neo-Gothic sandstone building is one of the largest churches in Australia. The foundation stone was laid in 1823 in the Gothic style but unfortunately burned down. The foundation stone for the present cathedral was laid in 1868 (if you want to know more, just look it up on the Internet).

2. Queen Victoria Building

It is a magnificent Victorian building in the center of Sydney. The neo-Romanesque architecture contrasts strongly with the modern buildings in the surrounding area. (If you want to know more, as I said, look it up on the Internet). Inside, there are designer boutiques and upscale eateries. I had to have my lunch there, of course.

3. Sydney Town Hall

The Sydney Town Hall was built in 1880 in the Victorian style.

4. Chinatown

Located in the heart of the city, it is Australia's largest Chinatown. It wasn't particularly special for me, except that the street names are actually bilingual.

5. Chinese Garden of Friendship

The garden was a gift from China to commemorate Australia's bicentennial in 1988. The garden is an oasis of tranquility in the middle of the CBD.

6. Darling Harbour

It is an entertainment district right on the water, next to the CBD, with shopping centers, theaters, museums, and a large pedestrian zone.

So, those were some examples from the city.

I have already visited the Botanic Garden, The Rocks, Circular Quay, and of course, the Opera House at the beginning.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Hunter Valley. So, I have to get up early again. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather. Today it was cloudy but also sunny, so it was pleasant for exploring the city. At 6 pm, we had another heavy thunderstorm.

See you tomorrow, Roswitha
