Mobile, Greyton Beach and Manatee State Park

Foilsithe: 24.03.2022

4.3. We pack our things and say goodbye to Eric. He has grown close to our hearts for the second time, and it is difficult for us to leave. A tear or two is shed. We still have time to visit the Sculpture Park before going to the Jazz Museum. The free park tour is recommended. The Jazz Museum is also interesting but could contain more information about its history. Back on the road, we drive to Mobile to visit Battleship Park. There, you can enter and explore both the USS Alabama (destroyer) and the USS Drum (submarine). It is a truly amazing tour where you can get a sense of the living conditions of the Marine soldiers during World War II. The various tanks and airplanes that complete the collection are also impressive. After that, we drive to Pensacola Beach and enjoy the sunset on the terrace of one of the many restaurants. We feel like we're in the Caribbean! Finding a campsite is a bit of a hassle, so we end up leaving the coast and find shelter at a KOA campground. At first, they don't want to accept us until we pay the manager in cash. Later, we find out that people with tents are not very welcome in Florida. They prefer the huge RV vehicles because they know that the customers have money and therefore manners... The prices they sometimes charge for a tent site, up to 78 USD, are discouraging.
