Where the pepper grows, 02/29/2020 (Day 28)

Publisearre: 01.03.2020

Kampot - the place where the pepper grows 😊

I'm feeling great again! The sleep did me good! Thank God!

So there's nothing stopping us from cruising through Kampot's countryside for half a day with the TukTuk.

After breakfast, the wild ride begins.

Our first stop (the roads are still paved) is the salt fields outside Kampot.

Wow, we've never seen so much salt in one place before.

The saltwater comes directly from the sea to the fields through channels, where the farmers scoop out the salt after a certain period.

Approximately 1,000 tons of salt are "harvested" only on the fields in front of us each year. That's a lot!

Back on the TukTuk, our guide suddenly stops by the roadside and shows us cotton growing on shrubs. It's really funny to see something like that 😊

Our next stop is the BoTree Pepper Plantation. After being shaken on a bumpy road for over 10 km, we arrive there.

After a quick tasting of pepper tea and various types of pepper, we explore this huge plantation on foot!

Breathtaking!

We're really where the pepper grows 😉

Many different varieties grow here in the fields. Red, black, and green pepper as far as the eye can see.

On the way back, we stop at the so-called Secret Lake. This lake was, we can hardly believe our guide, dug by hand.

You wouldn't believe how big the lake is. It must have taken years 🙈

On the edge of the lake, there's the opportunity to cook your own food in a small café or watch others do it.

After my encounter with the toilet bowl, I've become cautious with street food, so we'll just have a drink 😉

In the late afternoon, we arrive back in Kampot, thoroughly shaken from the bumpy road.

We stroll through the streets and have a delicious dinner before we fall into bed, really tired.
