Day 136 was Uijuijui... The cats in our muscles made us look very unhappy while running the next day. Therefore, we started late. The weather was better than the previous day. We considered making a second attempt to reach the peaks, this time in the Tongariro ski area. The difference from the previous day, with a cable car 😉. We got off at 2020m. A sign that said "Skyline walk" smiled at me. Yesterday was just rain and fog 🌁 🌫 "I want to go up here!" Meanwhile, Ulli made himself comfortable on the terrace of the restaurant. At an altitude of almost 2400m, everything desirable that made me redo this tour appeared. Yipi.👏🏻 It took almost 1 1/2 hours and then I also deserved my sandwich 🤤.
On Saturday, February 22nd, we booked the ⛴ ferry to the South Island. There were still over 400km to drive. Ulli did a great job and brought us almost 330km closer to Wellington at a charming beach. We had a tasty salad with turkey breast and fell tired into bed just in time for sunset 🌅.
Day 137
Usually we take it easy in the morning. Not today! There are not many strategically well located free places for our camper in the capital of NZ. Therefore, we have to be quick. Good 1 1/2 hours for 70km including rush hour, was sporty. We dropped anchor at 10am. Place secured 👏🏻 so the day could continue calmly with the missing breakfast. From now on, our sightseeing in Wellington could begin.
Ulli: HopHop to the viewpoint 😉☝🏼"
Me: "What, again 🤔?"
Ulli: "But we'll go back by bus!😚"
Me: "Arrww, okay 😏"
300m higher, the cats were already howling below the waist, we saw a wonderful 360° lookout over the harbor city. On one side, the large ships 🚢 lying in the harbor, behind them the green mountain ranges. A bit to the right, the takeoffs and landings of the planes. And further to the right, the city in the valley. Fantastic !!!
Next stop: Te Papa.
A must for every newcomer here. The museum tells the story of NZ, its people, flora and fauna, and it's all free. We were captivated by the stories shown/told to us. 3 hours passed by quickly. Our brains were bursting and hunger struck.
"Mama Brown", a burger joint, satisfied our hunger. And it brought a joyful visit as well. Mr. B. stood in the doorway. A familiar friend from 🇩🇪 joined us and we chatted away happily. We quickly found a little pub for a beer. With great bedtime stories, we drove back to the camper. Thanks, Mr. B. 😎
Day 138
🏴☠️ ahoi
Camper transfer by ⛴ is the mission for today. This trip to the South Island must be booked almost 2 weeks earlier. It is said to be one of the more difficult car transfers. Mr. B. prepared us for 3 1/2 hours of calm or rather more swaying times. Luckily, it remained calm 🤫. We drove off the ferry at 4:30pm and looked for our overnight accommodation at a nice spot on the northwest coast.
