By now we have been living in Melbourne for almost a month and it's time for an update.
We have found a room in a super nice cottage in Clifton Hill, a beautifully located neighborhood of Melbourne. We live there with three lovely people and two dogs. In addition to a great kitchen-living room, we have a garden both in front and behind the house, including a lemon tree and a workshop. There is a huge park across the street, which is placed around the Yarra River and Merri Creek, and our neighborhood is also super quiet, but we can easily walk or ride a bike to trendy, vibrant neighborhoods and explore hip Melbourne. So we are now living a completely normal life here with everything that comes with it. Mathias already had 3 job interviews in the first week and after the first one, he got an offer. So he has been working for the third week now at the fancy 'Vue de Monde', probably one of the most famous fancy restaurants in Melbourne, located on the 55th floor of the Rialto Towers, with a view from the open kitchen that probably can't be beaten. Lea, on the other hand, is more or less enjoying being unemployed. The job search is difficult even though she has now applied to 'Krut und rüaba', but she won't give up :) they don't even know what they're missing out on. So she spends her days crocheting, reading books, taking walks to the neighborhood library, and spoiling our flatmates with culinary delights. Fortunately, our house is often bustling, so there is little loneliness. But we don't find it easy to suddenly be separated again.
So we enjoy Mathias' days off together and explore Melbourne, and there is a lot to see and, above all, to eat. The standard of the restaurant scene is high and most international cuisine restaurants are very authentic. This makes our Asia-loving hearts beat faster and veganism has already spread in the hipster city, so there are vegan options in most restaurants and they are usually good. So far, we definitely feel like we chose the right place for our temporary settlement.
One day, Lea spent time with Emma and Brian and took a trip to the so-called Hanging Rock, which is north of Melbourne in a great area. There we saw a wild koala with a baby! In the evening, we had dinner together with Mathias.
Last week, our roommate Orlanda had her birthday and invited her friends to a delicious bagel brunch, which of course we were happy to help with. Her mom, who by the way is from Austria, did a little felt workshop with us to give Orlanda a felt blanket for her birthday. So we are slowly getting to know more nice people.
Despite the feeling of everyday life, we will try to give you updates and tell you a bit about our everyday life on the other side of the world.
