Wow we had a lot of highlights today 🤩
We were at the Knysna Elephant Park, a sanctuary for rescued elephants and founder of the AERU (African Elephant Research Unit). There are currently 5 elephants and a few zebras living there. The animals move freely here on 200 hectares. We were told a lot about the animals, their social structure, how much they eat and drink, their anatomy, etc. We were allowed to feed the elephants fruit and vegetables and walk alongside them across the wide meadow. We were so close. A really impressive encounter 🐘Afterwards we were able to watch the zebras grazing 🦓Anni was unfortunately totally disappointed and angry that she couldn't pet the zebras. But that's also part of it and has to be learned from her and endured by us 🤷🏽♀️ Nevertheless, we had a really great time with Sally, Nandi, Thandi, Keisha and Thato 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
We then went to a really charming café. There was a great playground again and a few chickens, guinea pigs, goats, pigs, horses and cows. You could also paint ceramics or buy local products in the two small shops. And the food… fantastic. So far the best meal we had in South Africa 🤩🥘🌮
We went home exhausted from all the great impressions and everyone fell flat on the sofa. In the evening we were visited by a gang of monkeys who were up to mischief on our car, the roof and on our balcony🐒 the cheeky monkeys also wanted to steal a bag from our balcony, but they weren't happy about the contents because we had them here have stored stinky diapers. The monkeys quickly ran away 😂
